One Platform, Full Visibility: Fleet Health Evolves

Platform Science and Cummins have formed a partnership to integrate engine diagnostics and performance data into a single fleet platform, in a move aimed at simplifying how US operators manage vehicle health.

Announced on March 10 at the American Trucking Association’s Technology and Maintenance Council meeting in Nashville, the agreement brings Cummins’ Connected Solutions portal onto Platform Science’s Virtual Vehicle system. The new integration, called Vehicle Health Intelligence, allows fleets to access engine data, remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates through one interface.

Cummins’ existing portal had provided access to a range of engine features. Its migration to Virtual Vehicle consolidates those tools, reducing the need for multiple systems. The companies said they have also introduced a simplified registration process, enabling users to enrol through the platform and gain immediate access to engine insights.

The partnership follows Platform Science’s acquisition in February of Trimble’s global transportation telematics business units. Trimble has since become a strategic investor, alongside backers including Daimler Truck, PACCAR and Schneider. The company has positioned these moves as part of a broader effort to build an open and interoperable technology ecosystem for commercial fleets in the US.

Brad Sutton, executive director of powertrain engineering at Cummins, said customers require “prioritized, actionable insights for all vehicles in one place”, adding that the Virtual Vehicle platform advances that goal. Jake Fields, co-founder and chief technology officer of Platform Science, described the partnership as validation of the platform’s ecosystem, aimed at delivering “world-class remote diagnostics and engine data insights” to fleets.

Fleet operators are facing higher maintenance costs and tighter compliance requirements, increasing demand for real-time vehicle data. Centralised diagnostics can shorten repair times and support preventive maintenance planning.

As more original equipment manufacturers integrate component-level data into shared platforms, competition among telematics providers is intensifying. Further partnerships between software platforms and equipment makers are expected as the sector seeks to standardise data access across North American trucking.
